«°ÐѰ» has been loitering on the scene for a while now. DNA - real name Morgan (but he prefers to be called Morgz) - lives in North East London, on the border of Essex. He's consistently getting tracks placed on major compilation albums, DJ'd all over the UK, in Ireland, Los Angeles.. but he's decided to take a back seat on the rave scene, quit DJ'ing and go back to College!!! Why did he choose to do that??

Because people really take the piss in this scene. Any chance to screw you over, they'll take it, and sadly, it's not the people you'd expect to screw you over - sometimes it can be people you thought were good friends, or even people right in the public eye that you would think should be more careful about all the lies they tell. This scene is the absolute best for having a laugh, but ****ing lousy for money. Much as I'd like to spend the rest of my life making music, it's not realistic to think like that, so I have crawled back to College - Epping Forest College if there are any female stalker types out there - to get some qualifications behind me for when I want a job with a regular salary!

Eh? Going back to College? How old are you?

19.. Was born June 9th, 1979"

So how are you going back to College? Did you flunk the first time round?

Bit of a long story.. well, a load of flukes really.

When I was about 13 (1992), I started getting into "rave" music. It was mainly from trying to be like people who went to the boarding school I was at (Summerhill school in Suffolk). I bought a dodgy old ghetto blaster off someone, and spent most of my time blasting out Ellis Dee, Seduction and Ratty tapes from Fantazia. I had an Amiga 500 computer, and a dodgy coverdisk copy of OctaMed, which is some extremely basic midi music editing software. So I sampled all these tunes from the tapes, and did bodged up remixes. As I got more into the music, I was walking 2 miles to record shops in Eastbourne just to buy one or two records. Eventually, I progressed to the "Use your mates turntables" stage, and by 15 I had my first beltdrive decks. At my last school, St. Bedes in "Upper Dicker" (yes, that really was the name of the place), I had decided I wanted to get somewhere in what had become the "Happy Hardcore" scene (Don't you HATE the name Happy Hardcore?). My Family then moved to London, and I spent my weekends listening to Model, Exorcist and Transit on Eruption 101.3

I became a regular phone caller/nuisence, and ended up bugging the studio crew to the point they would pass the phone around, pretending to be busy when I called. After a few weeks, I was sending messages back and forth to a girl called Malibu. After a heap of crawling <g> I managed to get hold of her phone number. It turned out she knew some people setting up a Pirate radio station, and asked if I would be interested in sending a demo tape to her to pass on. I did, and, somehow, they liked me! A month or so later, I had my own slots on Force FM with some of the maddest people I've ever known.. Amusement, Red Lid, Big Byte, DDT, Darkside, 'The House Boys', Formula 1, Those damn girls that always came up to the studio.. I owe you guys.. Anyway, Slipmatt had been alerted to the stations presence by Amusement getting in touch with him and getting some Universal promo's for the DJ's. One night, while in the middle of a show, I am told Slipmatt has called up from outside Labrynth to talk to me and is waiting on the phone. I was pretty starstruck, but managed to take down his number (thank God). I gave him a call the next day and begged for a chance to make a record.. He told me that his studio was pretty busy, but he put me in touch with a guy called Darren (Now D-Zyne).

I packed my bag and set off for the studio. The day started well, but somehow, smoke started pissing out the back of the Atari before we had even got started properly!!! So, after a bit of plug-yanking-out-the-wall, Darren said he would put me in touch with the Stage One company. I went there about a week later, showed that I wasn't a novice and could be good for them, and made my first tunes. After that I worked at Impact Records with Seduction, then I went to Essential Platinum with Dougal and Hixxy, but that fizzled out, so I went back to working with Seduction. At the moment, I'm working with Breeze again on several projects, which hopefully will be some of the best stuff I have ever produced. I have worked with a hell of a lot of people these last few years, and can even say that I helped start a few other artists, which is really cool because I am doing what Force FM and Slipmatt did for me.. =)

But you see, the part I missed out is that at about 15, I had the option of going to College and missing all this, or trying to actually make a name for myself.

So that's the life story! Next question.. ?

What's the deal with that pic of you and the piano?

Errr, Disneyland! They have this stupid piano, with a massive trumpet thing coming out of the top, so I put my head in it and pretended to play for about 5 seconds. Some sod took a picture. <shrug>

You've been a bit quiet recently, and there were rumours you were quitting it all going round.. this isn't true is it?

Ahh, yeah, kinda. Well, Hardcore was and still is a scene I would love to have done a lot better in, but I am coming to the conclusion I'm not all that great at making Hardcore. I am better at making Big Beat, so am thinking about making some more of that. I won't stop making the Hardcore, but I want to make some other stuff so that I don't get tired.

You've given up DJ'ing now, but what's your favourite experience behind the decks?

Hmm.. Los Angeles. I've been packed off there 7 times now, but the time I went out with Force and Styles still makes me laugh like a moron.. Other than that, I was a regular DJ at Labrynth for a while, and those memories (especially of that 17th birthday party <g>) won't be fading very quickly..

Oh.. just as a test, next time you see Force or Styles somewhere, just say "To youuuu" in a very high pitched voice while giving a thumbs up sign with both hands. This will really freak Styles out, and he'll probably start looking round for me. <g> (Note - this interview has been on this site for a while, and every time I see Styles, he says that more people have been coming up to him and doing it.. heh)

If you died tomorrow, how would you like to be remembered?

Ok, well, I would hope that people would miss my music. If just one person turned round to someone else and said "I'm gonna miss those DNA tunes" then that would have made it all worthwhile.

I hear you've had a hand in designing this website?

Errrm, well, I'm the Webmaster.. Breeze and co in Northampton said they wanted one, I said I could make it, and, that was that really! Wow.. what an exciting answer..

If you could change one thing about the scene, what would it be?

I'd get rid of the over-inflated ego's of some people that seem to think they are the absolute nutz and that without them we would be nothing. GET A LIFE LOSERZ. We were doing fine until you started making waves and we'll do fine when you've gone! Oh, and I'd bring new faces into the DJ'ing and Producing side, because it's far too much of a closed circle for most people! Also, I'd stop people whinging about things becoming commercial - most of the whingers have no argument and are just being sheep, following other people.

Finally, what's with that MIB suit below??

"<g> Well, two things really.. one of my AOL screen names is MIB related, because someone came up with "Morgz Is Back" for the meaning.. Also, when Seduction and I did a P.A. at a Hardcore Heaven sometime in the middle of '98, we dressed up in MIB suits for a laugh.. and.. I kept the suit.. "

Any final comments?

"A massive thanks to Wendy, Vic, Kie and Chris for helping me stay sane these last few months.. and to anyone that has helped me in the last 4 years. If you didn't help me, ahhh.. sod off. ;-) "

And with that, we downed our beers and went our seperate ways..
